How Rema Became Famous

Rema (real name; Divine Ikubor) is a Nigerian Afro pop artiste, born and bred up in Benin, the state capital of Edo state. He was born in the year 2000 to the Ikubor family, a Christian family. He lost his father at a very tender age, and also lost his brother when he was barely 15 years old, consequently, he was forced to mature early on.

Rema became famous in 2018 after he uploaded a video clip of himself doing a freestyle rap to the instrumental of “Gucci Gang” a track released in February 2018 by the popular Mavin Records act, D'Prince featuring Davido and Don Jazzy on his instagram page.

The video went viral and took over the media space, and eventually got to D'Prince who was fascinated by the brilliant performance displayed by the lad. Just like a dream come true for Rema, he received a direct message from D’Prince himself and that was how his breakthrough story started.
D‘prince who had been looking forward to building himself a team of his own boys quickly harnessed the opportunity and in no time travelled to Benin to get the teenager.
When they got to Lagos, Rema was put in the studio with an Afrobeats producer to further showcase his talent. After the session, D’Prince took the music to his older brother and Mavin Records C.E.O, Don Jazzy who was deeply impressed by the new performance.

On March 22, 2019, Don Jazzy announced that Rema had been officially signed to Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records (also known as the Supreme Mavin Dynasty).
Rema's First EP

In the same month, Rema released his commercial debut EP named after him "Rema EP" comprised of four tracks, namely; “Iron Man”, “Why”, “Dumebi”, and “Corny”. Out of the four songs ‘Dumebi’ and ‘Iron man’ were super dope and captivating, and garnered a lot of media attention. Recently, the Barbadian singer and songwriter, Rihanna was videoed dancing to Dumebi. Aside Rihanna, Drake was also captured earlier dancing to the same track, and has also revealed he's dropping a song with the Dumebi singer, Rema anytime soon. The ‘Iron man’ track was also one of the songs captured recently on the playlist of the former US president, Barrack Obama.
