Rema (real name; Divine Ikubor) is a Nigerian Afro pop artiste, born and bred up in Benin, the state capital of Edo state. He was born in the year 2000 to the Ikubor family, a Christian family. He lost his father at a very tender age, and also lost his brother when he was barely 15 years old, consequently, he was forced to mature early on.
Rema became famous in 2018 after he uploaded a video clip of himself doing a freestyle rap to the instrumental of “Gucci Gang” a track released in February 2018 by the popular Mavin Records act, D'Prince featuring Davido and Don Jazzy on his instagram page.
The video went viral and took over the media space, and eventually got to D'Prince who was fascinated by the brilliant performance displayed by the lad. Just like a dream come true for Rema, he received a direct message from D’Prince himself and that was how his breakthrough story started.
D‘prince who had been looking forward to building himself a team of his own boys quickly harnessed the opportunity and in no time travelled to Benin to get the teenager.
